The moon is a sunlit object.

Yesterday in Portland, we experienced something unusual: a day without rain.

And, this absence of rain delivered an unexpected gift as I went to bed: a clear night!

Our house was designed with several strategically placed skylights, one of which is right over our bed, offering a perfect view of the night’s sky. Last night, I indulged in one of my favorite activities: simply hanging out and watching the moon—it was a brilliant crescent, as if a perfect bite had been taken from a round holiday cookie.

A bright, beautiful moon always brings to mind Ansel Adams’ quote: ‘The moon is a sunlit object.’ It reminds me of light’s reach and its influence on our perceptions—something Adams masterfully harnessed with light and shadow in his photographs.

As tonight’s Winter Solstice shifts the balance of light and darkness, it echoes the impact of our work in financial services. The content we create and the lives we touch transform our work into light—traveling far to illuminate, connect and engage.

Here’s to a Solstice that reminds us of our own reach. And to a new year where the light we cast through our efforts meets the minds—and the hearts—of those we aim to connect with. 💜

Whether you light a room with candles or relax under the moon and stars, may you find your kind of merry and bright.

Sending you a light in the shadows.
